MEDAN, North Sumatra: The Medan District Court on Tuesday acquitted Zainal Abidin from a murder charge
MEDAN, North Sumatra: The Medan District Court on Tuesday acquitted Zainal Abidin from a murder charge.
The prosecutor Parulian Sinaga, sought 18 years imprisonment for Zainal for allegedly murdering businessman Wijaya Kusuma in the latter's house in May last year, but on Tuesday Judge Suhartanto ruled there was no evidence for the charge.
The defendant's lawyer Surya Adinata, said the verdict was just as his client had not committed the murder. He said the charged had been deliberately falsified.
"All was engineered to look as if our client killed the businessman Wijaya. If fact, he did not and that was proven today," Surya told The Jakarta Post after the court session.
He said he planned to file a lawsuit against the North Sumatra Police. - JP
