am a physician working in Semarang. While we have a strict policy on antibiotic use, we also require patient cooperation in understanding that not all infections need antibiotics.
Viral infections in the pharynx for example, are self-limiting, and patients may recover just by bed rest and an adequate immune response from the body.
It is, then, a matter of educating and raising awareness of both health professionals and the public, that the impact of reckless antibiotic use can be detrimental.
What needs to be addressed is that each infection needs specific
antibiotics, and that the more “advanced” antibiotics should be reserved
for severe infections.
