ALEMBANG, South Sumatra: Eight foreign students from five countries will study Indonesian culture and language for a year at Sriwijaya University (Unsri) in Palembang, South Sumatra, on an Indonesian government scholarship program.
Assistant dean of the university’s Teacher Training School, Mulyadi Eko Purnomo, said Wednesday that there were two students each from Bangladesh, Japan and Thailand and one each from Cambodia and Poland.
The participating students, he said, would join other students in regular classes after completing a three-month preparatory course.
Japanese student Saki Morimoto said he was happy to join the program, adding that it allowed him to learn about Indonesian culture and language and opened up opportunities for him to travel to different parts of the country. “This is a good chance for me to learn about Indonesia and its people,” he said in Indonesian. — JP
