uangzhou: Indonesian beach volleyball aces Andy Ardiyansah and Koko Prasetyo Darkuncoro failed to make their way into the semifinals after losing to Japan’s Kentaro Asahi and Katsuhiro Shiratori 21-19, 21-12 in the men’s quarterfinals on Sunday.
“We lack experience at the world level, and we made some mistakes in blocking,” said Koko, who along with Agus Salim finished second at the 2002 Busan Asian Games.
“The Japanese players have the experience facing lots of world-class teams. The lack of experience affected our mental strength and techniques and tactics,” added the 1.85 meter tall Koko.
The Japanese, meanwhile, said they are very excited with the win but see improvement in Asian beach volleyball teams.
“The Asian beach volleyball teams are rapidly growing stronger, so I wanted to examine our ability and see where we rank,” Katsuhiro Shiratori said after the match.
“I wasn’t satisfied with the result in Doha [2006 Asian Games], so I want rejuvenate my morale and strive for vindication,” he added. — JP
