Mayor, youth group get national kudos

enpasar: Denpasar Mayor Ida Bagus Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra received the national Aditya Karya Mahatya Yodha award for his support of the city’s youth program.
The award was presented by Social Services Minister Salim Segaf Al Jufrie and was witnessed by Vice President Boediono during the commemoration of National Solidarity Day in Jakarta on Monday.
Denpasar also grabbed another award: Karang Taruna Yowana Kerti Buana Youth Organization from Sanur was named Indonesia’s best youth organization.
The Mayor’s office previously launched a youth empowerment program that invited Denpassar’s young people to open their own businesses.
Five youth organizations received Rp 100 million each (US$11,100) in start-up capital from the city.
The recipients are now running several successful businesses, including an urban agri-businesses and a car repair center. — JP
