our comments on the government’s threat to block internet access on BlackBerrys if the manufacturer, Research in Motion (RIM), fails to restrict access to pornographic content.
BlackB: BlackBerry time: Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasan (center) and Agriculture Minister Suswono use their BlackBerry devices, while Transportation Minister Freddy Numberi (right) looks on before a meeting in Jakarta on Jan. 10. Communications and Information Technology Minister Tifatul Sembiring has warned BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion to block access to pornography on its devices. Antara/Prasetyo Utomo
Minister Tifatul Sembiring’s threat to shut down RIM services if the Canadian-based server proves to be unsuccessful in blocking pornographic websites is a real show of force.
Since the start of its operation the BlackBerry provider experienced the minister’s ire because of its technical superiority and the popular support it obtained.
To be fair, the minister should ban computers and laptops as well, because through these media one can easily and conveniently access pornographic websites.

It’s wonderful idea. If you do love Indonesia you will support it and if you want to destroy our beloved country you will disagree with our government’s plan. Do you know how dangerous porn is? I support you, Minister Tifatul.

This is another example of the wrong person in the wrong position/job.

Do you know why our country is still left behind by so many other countries all over the world?
Yes, it is because so many sanctimonious people in our nation are pretending to be pious.

Minister Tifatul, what are your real reasons behind your threat to stop BlackBerry? Interested people will not stop watching porn and just switch to local providers.

In the perspective of politics, society, culture and the economy, this policy of Communications and Information Technology Minister Tifatul Sembiring is the way of to protect Indonesian youth from future moral hazards.
Because of that, we must support this policy.

The Indonesian government is focusing too much on porn and saying that they are clean and very religious. The fact is Indonesia is the number one most corrupt country in Asia. The fact is Indonesia is a poor and poorly-educated country. Yet they are still wasting their time and people’s money focusing on porn?

Tifatul, you are a minister, not a nanny. Please be wise; think about people’s needs.

No way. The BlackBerry server can’t be closed. Even if he doesn’t want the porn sites, he can’t close the whole server. It’s irrational because people are not using the Internet through BlackBerry just for porn. Whatever the facts are, if he doesn’t want it, then he shouldn’t use it. Don’t mess with other people’s lives.

Tifatul will never shut Internet access on BlackBerry in Indonesia. The whole government, including SBY, uses BlackBerrys. He just wants attention. If you want to watch porn you use a laptop.
