AKARTA: Civil servants in the city will be given shorter working hours during the Ramadhan fasting month, after the city government announced that Jakarta’s administration had cut working hours by one-and-a-half hours.
Budhiastuti, head of the City Employment Agency, said the new schedule during Ramadhan has been approved by Governor Fauzi Bowo.
“We are currently preparing a draft bylaw which will be signed by the Governor later this week,” Budhiastuti said.
Civil servants’ working hours begin at 7:30 a.m. and finish at 4 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break. During Ramadhan, office hours will start at 8 a.m. and finish early at 3 p.m..
“There will be no lunch break because they won’t be needing it,” Budhiastuti said.
Ramadhan is expected to begin on Aug. 1 and will end on Aug. 30.
