ndonesia’s largest nickel producer, PT International Nickel Indonesia (Inco), announced Friday that Tony Wenas had resigned as president director of the company due to personal and family reasons.
The company said in an official statement sent to The Jakarta Post that a successor had been identified and would be proposed to the company’s shareholders for appointment at a general shareholders’ meeting expected to be held in September.
“Mr. Wenas’ decision has been communicated to the employees of the company,” the statement read. “He will continue to assist the company after his departure.”
The company said it was still committed to implement existing initiatives and growth plans to achieve annual production of 120,000 metric tons of nickel in the near future.
Inco produced an average of 73,000 metric tons a year of nickel in the last five years at its nickel mines in Sulawesi. In April, the company announced plans to invest US$232 million to raise its annual production to 90,000 metric tons in 2014 or 2015. The company recorded a net profit of $238.1 million in the first six months of 2011, a 9 percent increase from $218.8 million in the same time period last year.
