NDONESIA: A four-year-old child was injured when her right foot was caught in an escalator at the International Trade Center (ITC) Mangga Dua shopping mall in Mangga Dua, North Jakarta.
North Jakarta Police criminal investigation chief Irwan Anwar said the toddler, Shelby Marcella, suffered injuries to her right foot and was rushed to Husada Hospital in North Jakarta.
The girl was reportedly on the escalator with her mother at the time of the incident.
Police officers questioned several witnesses, including a mall security officer and a mall employee.
“We will also question other witnesses,” he said, adding the escalator where the incident occurred would be temporarily closed for service.
Mall management said that it was not to blame for the accident.
“All escalators in the mall are equipped with protective features to protect people from any harm while riding the escalators,” said the mall’s general affair manager, Bahar Asmar, as quoted by detik.com on Saturday.
