JAKARTA: In an apparent attempt to strengthen its position in Asia’s Internet market, Yahoo! Inc
AKARTA: In an apparent attempt to strengthen its position in Asia’s Internet market, Yahoo! Inc. has chosen Indonesia as the third country to host its latest feature, Yahoo! Post, which allows users to not only search for, but also discuss, information online.
Yahoo! Indonesia launched Yahoo! Post on Wednesday and anyone with a Yahoo! account, particularly Indonesians, can access the new product at id.post.yahoo.com. The launching of Yahoo! Post follows the success of a similar product, KPost, which has been available in Hong Kong since September, and in South Korea since November.
Yahoo! Post offers a new type of content discovery tool, which combines search-based and social-based products, where users only have to enter a keyword to get involved.
Yahoo! Southeast Asia’s regional product marketing manager Aryo Kresnadi said that Yahoo! Indonesia combined the search- and social-based products to anticipate the increasing use of social networks and search engines in Indonesia.
Aryo said that Yahoo! Post was part of Yahoo!’s efforts to be innovative in Indonesia, which is one of the most important internet markets in the region, being the largest in Southeast Asia and the fourth largest in Asia after China, India and Japan.
Yahoo! Indonesia’s country manager Pontus Sonnerstedt said that Yahoo! Post would follow the success of KPost because the Indonesian market is very big and will continue to grow.
“The Internet is relatively new here compared to Hong Kong or Taiwan. So, of course, those markets are bigger today. However, the exciting thing about Indonesia is that Internet growth can continue for a long time because the market is so big,” he said.
