ANGERANG: Customs and Excise Office officers have arrested a man for allegedly smuggling 160 grams of crystal methamphetamine into the country via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
Head of the airport’s customs office Oza Ilivia said that the suspect was identified as Riska Putra Pratama Ibrahim, 20, who had flown from Kuala Lumpur on Air Asia flight AK-388 flight, arriving at the airport Monday
evening.
“Our team conducted profile analyses on passengers at Terminal 2 and arrested the suspect, who looked nervous,” she said on Tuesday.
Officers later found out after conducting an X-ray scan on his body that the suspect had ingested five capsules containing crystal meth.
In cooperation with the Jakarta Police, the customs office later arrested Mahmud, who was the intended recipient of the drugs in East Jakarta.
“By foiling the smuggling attempt, we have saved at least 640 people from possible drug problems,” Oza said.
Drug smuggling is a violation of Article 113 of the 2009 narcotics law, which carries the death penalty.
