AKARTA: The United Development Party (PPP) says it is preparing strategies to recruit 12 million members prior to the 2014 general election, Antara news agency reported on Friday.
PPP chairman Suryadharma Ali said that he was optimistic about reaching the target, but declined to disclose the details of his party’s strategies.
“We believe that potential members are everywhere but they are not well managed,” he said.
“Thus, we will focus on youth empowerment in rural areas.”
Suryadharma, who also serves as the Religious Affairs Minister, said that his party currently had about 5.3 million loyal voters. “Young voters are not included,” he said.
In the last general election in 2009, the PPP secured 37 seats (6.61 percent) in the House of Representatives. It gained around 5.53 million votes across the country.
