AKARTA: Some Indonesian migrant workers are vulnerable to HIV because they frequently travel, especially those working in HIV endemic areas, a government official says.
Head of the Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TKI) Jumhur Hidayat said that migrant workers should be more careful and mindful of their environment.
Of all migrant workers, men are at a higher risk of infection, Jumhur said.
“We continue to hold educational campaigns so that such incidents can be prevented in the future,” he said on Friday as quoted by kompas.com.
Jumhur said that all migrant workers should be checked prior to departure because recipient countries would not receive migrant workers who were infected with HIV.
“We have health facilities for migrant workers,” he added.
