ANJARBARU: The people of South Kalimantan eat more fish than those of any other province, a local official says.
“Their consumption was 41.2 kilograms per capita while the national fish consumption average is 30.3 kilograms,” said the province’s head of fishery and maritime agency, Isra, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Head of the health agency, Rosihan Adhani, said that the high fish intake showed that the provincial population had a balanced diet.
“This means that there is an alternative nutrition and protein intake aside from dairy meat,” he said.
But he suggested that a research be conducted to find out what portion of the province’s fish intake included salted fish, which might lead to degenerative illnesses such as stroke and heart disease.
