MPR Speaker Kiemas stable after surgery

The People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR)
Speaker Taufiek Kiemas is in a stable condition on Saturday after undergoing surgery
in the morning to replace the batteries of his heart pacemaker.
Kiemas, chairman of the board of patrons of
the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), is currently convalescing
at the Dr Sukaman Pavilion of the Harapan Kita Heart Hospital in West Jakarta
following the surgery.
“The surgery took between 40 minutes to one
hour. His condition is stable,” Trimedya Panjaitan, a member of the PDI-P
faction in the House of Representatives, said after visiting Kiemas as reported
by kompas.com.
“He is already able to converse with his
visitors. I had a chat with him but not a heavy one.”
Trimedya said Kiemas, who was admitted to
the hospital on Friday, was scheduled to return home on Monday or Tuesday. (nvn)
