ATAM: Police announced they had arrested German national Uwe Schweisfurth, 49, for allegedly masterminding a robbery, which was motivated by jealousy.
The robbery took place on Dec. 28 last year with the victims being a woman and two men.
Batam Police chief Sn. Comr Karyoto said on Wednesday that they moved swiftly to apprehend Schweisfurth upon receiving a report of the robbery from a woman identified as Tina.
In her report, Tina said she had been ambushed and held captive by five men on her way to Hang Nadim Airport on Dec. 28.
She said the kidnappers stole her money and belongings worth Rp 200 million.
“It appeared that the robbery had been motivated by jealousy between Tina and a German citizen. He had a gang of thugs carry out the attack,” Karyoto said.
The police have now detained other suspects, namely Puji (female), Edward Robin, Oka Kuswara, Amri, and Septa.
“According to Uwe’s testimony, he had been duped by his former girlfriend and he retaliated by robbing her. The case is still unclear and no suit has as yet been filed over the issue. But if found guilty of robbery, the German citizen faces up to five years in jail,” he said.
