espite its relatively small size in Southeast Asia, Singapore wields big influence when it comes to offering world-class art and entertainment events.

In recent years, those main events have included famed Italian designer Valentino bringing his retrospective to Resorts World Sentosa, and the ArtScience Museum in Marina Bay Sands hosting the Van Gogh Alive exhibition, allowing visitors to explore the work and life experiences of tortured Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh, to name but two.

Much more is in store, including this coming week.

The Titanic Exhibition

The ArtScience Museum invites the public to experience the legendary and ill-fated Titanic at its nine galleries to mark the centennial anniversary of the ship’s sinking, in a first for Southeast Asia.

The galleries take visitors chronologically through the ship’s conception, construction, sailing day, life on board, the famous iceberg, the ship’s sinking on April 15, 1912, and the discovery of the wreck.

For the more personal side of the tragedy, there are 275 artifacts salvaged from the wreck and poignant tales of the ship’s passengers and crew. A total of 1,517 people lost their lives on the ship.

Concurrently, images of Singapore in 1912 are also displayed for a nostalgic trip down memory lane. For more information, log onto titanic.sg

Tintin Exhibition

Lovers of Belgium’s golden boy Tintin should head to the Singapore Philatelic Museum, which is currently exhibiting original stamps and other philatelic materials on the comic hero until May 31.

Sourced directly from the Museum voor Communicatie in The Hague, the Netherlands, and from L’Adresse Musée de La Poste in Paris, France, are being exhibited for the first time in Southeast Asia. It is expected to rejuvenate die-hard fans’ enthusiasm for the character after the blockbuster The Adventures of Tintin in movie theaters last year.

Wicked The Musical

This Broadway hit, winner of many major awards, including a Grammy and Tony award, continues until April 1 at the Marina Bay Sands’ Grand Theatre.

Adapted from Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, it is the story of two different girls meeting in the land of Oz. One was born with emerald-green skin and the other possesses fair skin and great beauty. The two become fast friends, and grow up to be the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.
