emarang: Secretary of Semarang city Akhmat Zaenuri was sentenced on Tuesday to one-and-a-half years in jail and ordered to pay a fine of Rp 50 million (US$5,450) for his involvement in a bribery case.
If the defendant is unable to pay the fine within two weeks, he will be subject to two additional months in jail.
“The defendant is proven guilty of bribing in a bid to speed up the deliberation of the 2012 Semarang city budget,” said Iva Sudewi, head of the panel of judges at the Semarang Corruption Court.
The verdict was lighter than the demand for two-and-a-half years in jail and a fine of Rp 100 million. The defendant was pronounced guilty of violating Article 3 of Law No. 20/2001 in lieu of Law No. 31/1999 on Corruption Eradication.
