No broiler chicken meat in the markets

T

here was a shortage of broiler chicken meat for sale in many traditional markets due to a strike by vendors following a price increase.

In Kosambi market, there were only three vendors selling locally farmed chicken meat, while there were none in Palasari market on Friday.

The increase in chicken meat prices was caused by the increase in the price of day-old chicks and chicken food.

The West Java Industry and Trade head, Ferry Sofwan Arif, said there was no shortage of stock, as the 69 companies that bred broiler chickens in the province, could produce 20 million chickens per week.

“Sixty percent of the production is designated for West Java, while the remainder is transported to other provinces. West Java is known as a chicken producer,” said Ferry.

According to Hamid, 47, a chicken vendor at Kosambi market, the strike would last for only one day.
