Sukhoi ready to disburse crash insurance

he Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company has prepared the insurance payments for the families of the victims on board the Sukhoi jet that crashed in May, the Russian Embassy in Jakarta has announced.

The embassy said in a press statement on Friday that the company had prepared Rp 1.25 billion (US$131,250) for each of the families. Thirty-five Indonesians died in the crash. The company has also prepared insurance payments for those Russian citizens affected by the accident.

On Wednesday, May 9, the Russian-made Sukhoi Superjet 100 crashed into Mount Salak in Bogor, West Java, while conducting a demonstration flight.

The plane vanished from radar screens and an Air Force helicopter discovered the plane’s wreckage the following morning.

Of a total 45 people on board the flight, 35 were Indonesian and eight were Russian. A US citizen and a French national were also on board. No one survived the crash. (lfr)
