PALEMBANG: Palembang is hosting the 13th Islamic World Malay World (DMDI) convention from on Oct
ALEMBANG: Palembang is hosting the 13th Islamic World Malay World (DMDI) convention from on Oct. 2-3, 2012, with participants from Malaysia, Cambodia, Srilanka, China, Singapore, South Africa, Egypt and Indonesia.
DMDI president Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said two issues would be discussed at the convention — supporting Palestine’s independence and condemning the Innocence of Muslims film that insulted the Prophet Muhammad.
“Besides that, the convention is held under the framework of improving ties, economics and education in Malay countries,” he said in Palembang, South Sumatra, on Tuesday.
During the conference, an event will be held to trace Parameswara’s voyage from Palembang to Malacca, Malaysia, 750 years ago. “Parasmeswara conducted the journey from Palembang to Malacca, so this year his voyage will be carried out again,” said Rustam.
Parameswara was a prince from Palembang who married a Majapahit princess who later betrayed him and banished him from Palembang. He later fled to Temasek (now Singapore) and was eventually entrusted to become the king of Malacca.
The convention’s 1,300 participants also plan to visit the historic site of Bukit Siguntang, Parameswara’s original home.
