strong>TANGERANG: A group of men attending the pre-trial of Robin Ong, a defendant in a fraud case at the Tangerang District Court, were angered over the judges’ decision to suspend the detention of the former photojournalist, on Thursday.
Members of the Alliance of Indonesian Defenders (APPMI) shouted obscenities and told the panel of judges, presided by Toga Napitupulu, to return the defendant to custody. “We have evidence that the defendant has been on the police’s wanted list for a long time. As judges you should uphold the law,” they said.
The police later escorted the men out of the courtroom.
Robin was reported to the police by Samuel Bon Hansen for failing to obtain a special vehicle license number for his luxury car. Samuel told the police that he had give Rp 22 million (US$2,295) to Robin to procure the license number.
The police detained Robin on Jan. 13 after he twice failed to fulfill summons for questioning.
Robin denies all accusations.
