xhibition

A photography exhibition featuring works by Sibylle Bergemann will be held from Feb. 22 until March 5 at Bentara Budaya Jakarta on Jl. Palmerah Selatan in Central Jakarta. A discussion on the exhibition will also be held at the Bentara Budaya on Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. Bergemann’s works have been described as unique, poetic, full of surprises and often times surrealistic. The photographer has done work in numerous fields, from reportage and urban landscapes in numerous places, and also work in fashion, modeling and human interest photography. Her work in fashion launched her name to fame. Her photographs have been published in many print publications including Geo, Die Zeit, Der Spiegel, Stern, and The New York Times Magazine.Visit bentarabudaya.com for more information.

Screening

The Japan Foundation will screen an animated TV series Uchuu Kyoudai (Space Brothers) at the Auditorium Arifin Panigoro at Al-Azhar Indonesia University on Jl. Sisingamangaraja, South Jakarta, on March 2.

The screening will also be followed by a talk show featuring a number of experts on anime and manga from Japan. Uchuu Kyodai is a dramatic animated series telling the story of an astronaut and his daily life as a normal man. The series is based on the manga series of the same name by \artist Chuya Koyama. Sales of the manga reached the 10 million mark in Japan. The editor of the manga series is Yohei Sadoshima, who is already famous from his work with Takehiko Inoue on Vagabond and Norifusa Mita on Doragon Zakura. Admission to the screening is free. Stand-up

An ensemble of uprising local comics will perform at US cultural center @america at Pacific Place in South Jakarta on Sunday Feb. 17 starting at 7 p.m. The cast includes Mo Sidik, Dwika Putra, Luqman Baehaqi, Alison Bule Bandung, Otnamree and Imran. Hosted by Fathia Sarpuspita, the show is meant to soothe the brokenhearted on the Valentine’s Day. Mo Sidik is a Bandung-based comedian, who, along with prominent local comics such as Pandji Pragiwaksana and Raditya Dika have boosted the popularity of the local stand-up scene.
