he Jakarta Police announced on Tuesday that they had shot dead an Iranian who allegedly possessed 1 kilogram of crystal methamphetamine.
Police narcotics directorate chief Sr. Comr. Nugroho Aji Wijayanto said the suspect, Hadi, was shot on Friday when he tried to escape while leading police officers to his accomplice’s place.
“He broke free of the handcuffs and tried to run,” Nugroho said.
Police started the investigation into the case after receiving a tip on Feb. 1 via their short text message hotline number 1717. The message said he lived in a room in the Genteng Ijo area, South Jakarta.
Police then decided to arrest ABS, the man whom Hadi said had supplied him with the crystal meth. Nugroho said Hadi claimed that the man lived in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
“But he tried to escape on the way to the location. We shot him in the foot and back when he failed to heed our warning,” Nugroho said. The police are still investigating ABS.
