When it’s okay for a party it should be okay for a province. It’s no big deal, is it?

It’s very sad to see many politicians in the country, including in Aceh, who don’t possess the spirit of statesmanship.
Yes, we understand the special autonomy given to Aceh province. But politicians in the provinces haven’t been satisfied with the responsibilities handed to them by the central government.
It’s regrettable that the Aceh Legislative Council approved a bylaw to adopt the flag used as a symbol of rebellion by the GAM.
I believe there are so many Acehnese who are still loyal to Indonesia. Therefore, the council does not need to approve such a bylaw, which can hurt the sense of nationalism of other Indonesians. There should be no country within this country.

If the central government was exemplary in every way, I would be confident that all provincial flags would represent a form of gratitude and participation. However, the present government is leading us on a path to disintegration!
It is time for recollection, self-correction and reconstruction.
A highly respectable leader is badly needed to lead the country back to its original values of Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Eka (Unity in Diversity) and reunite our archipelago from Sabang to Merauke.

The government should be able to handle this issue wisely to avoid a larger negative impact on peace in Aceh amid the high political tension of the 2014 election.

Having approved a bylaw that is incompatible with both the peace accord and national regulations, the Aceh Legislative Council should be dissolved by the central government and a new election held to replace the evidently incompetent council currently in place.
