outh Sulawesi administration's Education and Culture Agency says that 107,433 senior high school students will not be able to sit the national exam (UN) slated to kick off on Monday as exam papers have not yet arrived in Makassar, the province's capital.
Education and Culture Agency head Abdullah Jabbar said on Sunday that his institution had received on Saturday evening a circular sent by the National Education and Culture Ministry that informed of changes in the national exam schedule.
It is stipulated in the circular that the national exam which was scheduled to take place on Monday has been postponed until Friday. The exam scheduled to take place on Tuesday will be conducted on April 22. Meanwhile, the exams scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday will remain on schedule.
'All preparations have been completed. The exam locations, the monitoring teams and all security precautions have been ready for the national exam to take place on Monday. The problem is, we have not yet received the exam papers. We can't do anything, however, because it is the National Education and Culture Ministry that handles the printing of exam papers,' said Jabbar.
It is the Galia Indonesia printing house in Bogor, West Java that is responsible for printing exam papers for both senior and junior high schools in South Sulawesi and 10 other provinces. However, the company seems to have been overwhelmed by the task of printing the 30 sets of the exam papers.
'This is the first time the national exam papers have been late in arriving in regions. It seems that centralized question-sheet printing has caused the delay,' said Jabbar. (asw/ebf)
