awand Human Rights Minister Amir Syamsuddin has been appointed as the DemocraticParty's honor council chief, succeeding President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

The appointment of Amir was seen as an effort to refurbish the party's images after a series of corruption scandals.

While the Democratic Party has registered its new honor board  with the Law and Human Rights ministry, Amir declined to specify the names of board members pending an official announcement on Sunday.

Nurhayati Assegaf, the leader of  Democratic Party lawmakers in the House, said that the 4-person board would have a new deputy chairman position that would replace a treasurer post. (nai/dic)
