Mass organizations backing Yogyakartaâs special status under the Constitution want officials to use the full title of Yogyakarta Sultan Hamengkubuwono X in provincial and special bylaws
ass organizations backing Yogyakarta's special status under the Constitution want officials to use the full title of Yogyakarta Sultan Hamengkubuwono X in provincial and special bylaws.
'The title is part of the history and therefore has to be described to inspire [Hamengkubuwono] in performing his duty as a leader,' Charis Zubair of Gadjah Mada University's School of Philosophy told a hearing at the gubernatorial office recently.
At the hearing were Yogyakarta Provincial Secretary Ichsanuri and Provincial Development Planning Agency head Tavip Agus Riyanto.
The holder of the title of Yogyakarta sultan, who is also automatically appointed as governor under the province's special status, is Sampeyan Dalem Ingkang Sinuhun Kanjeng Sultan Hamengku Buwono Senapati Ing Ngalaga Ngabdurrahman Sayidin Panatagama Khalifatullah ingkang Jumeneng Kaping Sadasa. Use of the title has been stipulated in Law No 13/2012 on Yogyakarta's Special Status.
Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi' previously said that use of the full title, especially of the honorific Khalifatullah, an Islamic term referring to God's representative on earth, in bylaws would imply that Sultan was not a representative leader.
