Bakrie Group to launch paid TV service

B

akrie Group's media company, PT Visi Media Asia Tbk (VIVA), says that it will launch a paid TV service called VIVA Sky at the end of this year.

VIVA President Director, Eric Tohir, said as quoted by kompas.com that VIVA Sky will focus on the live broadcast of the 2014 World Cup and is expected to garner 300,000 consumers during the first semester of 2014.

The consumer target could reach 1 million if VIVA Sky managed to acquire new consumers from other paid TV services and broadcasted programs that no other television company had, Eric said.

"For this purpose, we have allocated US$40 million of budget. From this budget, around $30 million will be used for capital spending," Eric said while adding that the budget would be garnered from a loan facility worth $80 million provided by Deutsche Bank recently.

Eric also stressed that there was no plan to sell VIVA to MNC Group, which belonged to media mogul and People's Conscience Party (Hanura) politician, Hary Tanoesodibyo.
