urkish defense giant Aselsan is strengthening its position in Indonesia by opening an office and signing cooperation agreements with three Indonesian state-owned defense companies during the Indo Defense 2024 Expo and Fair.

“This is the fifth time we have attended the exhibition [Indo Defense]. So far, we are very happy and very satisfied. And year by year, the exhibition becomes larger and larger. It shows the ambitions of the Indonesian government to the defense industry,” Aselsan chief executive officer and president Ahmet Akyol said on June 12.

“We are not here as Aselsan only. Now we have Aselsan Indonesia [for the first time].”

Akyol said that the Indonesian office, which opened at the end of 2024, allows the company to communicate directly with end users.

Attending the opening ceremony on June 13 was the Secretary of Turkish Defense Industries Haluk Gorgun, Akyol and other dignitaries.

Akyol said that an agreement ass made with Indonesian electronics maker PT LEN Industri regarding technology transfer and coproduction in radar, surveillance, cyber security and command and control systems. Another agreement was reached with land system and weapons maker PT Pindad covering joint development of weapons systems, guidance and fire control, and an agreement with shipyard PT PAL focuses on modernization and new platform development.

Meanwhile, an agreement with Czech CSG group centers on joint opportunities and another with Czech Excalibur Army on the integration of Aselsan systems on Excalibur Army’s Patriot 4x4 vehicles in Indonesia.
