Fire spots detected in 57 concession areas in Riau

reenomics Indonesia said 1,106 fire spots had been detected in concession areas of at least 57 companies granted industrial forest permits (HTI) and palm oil plantations in Riau from June 19 to 20.

Greenomics Indonesia executive director Elfian Effendi said in Jakarta on Friday that 30 out of 57 companies were HTI holders owned by or affiliated with Sinarmas Forestry Group and Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (RAPP) in Riau.

He added the fire spots had also been detected in concession areas of 27 oil palm companies and 26 of those companies were operating in Riau and the other was in Riau Islands.

'€œOne oil palm plantation with the fire spots is a company owned by First Resources, a Singapore-based oil palm industrial company group, listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange,'€ said Elfian in a statement made available to The Jakarta Post on Friday.

Greenomics Indonesia said the report was based on a digital data on the spread of fire spots detected by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration'€™s Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS-NASA).

Elfian said the companies'€™ concession area permits were listed at the Forestry Ministry. (ebf)
