adri Hartono, alias Toni, the leader of Al Qaeda Indonesia, was sentenced to 10 years in prison during a hearing at the West Jakarta District Court, on Thursday.
Presiding judge Musa Atif Aini said Badri was found guilty of being involved in terrorism.
'['¦] imposing a sentence of 10 years in prison on the defendant because he was convincingly proven guilty of the making of explosive devices and of military training,' said Musa, reading out the verdict, as quoted by Kompas.com. He said Badri violated Law No.15/2003 on terrorism eradication.
Badri was the leader of Al Qaeda Indonesia and planned several terror attacks in Jakarta. Badri and several of his group's members mastered bomb-making techniques having attended terror training in Poso, Southeast Sulawesi.
Badri, who was arrested in Solo, was also said to be a follower of Bagus Budi Pranoto alias Urwah.
Urwah was a follower of Noordin Mohammad Top and was involved in the JW Mariott and Ritz Carlton bomb attacks on July 17, 2009.
Al Qaeda Indonesia's network was uncovered when home-made bombs exploded in a house at Jl.Nusantara, Depok, West Java, in September 2012.
This group planned several terror attacks, including at the city police's Mobile Brigade (Brimob) headquarters in Kwitang, Central Jakarta. It was also involved in an attack on Buddhist communities in Indonesia following a religious-based conflict in Myanmar. (fan/ebf)
