he earthquake that recently jolted Bener Meriah and Central Aceh regencies killed 40 people and forced many more to take refuge at emergency shelters, an official said on Sunday.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said there were 63 seriously-injured people who were being treated at hospitals while 2,363 people were treated as out-patients.
Sutopo added there were 22,125 people taking refuge at shelters after the 6.2 magnitude quake destroyed 15,919 houses and 623 public facilities.
Meanwhile, Antara news agency reported that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was scheduled to visit both regencies.
The Central Aceh and Bener Meriah Integrated Command Post chief, Col. Hipdizah, said Yudhoyono would leave Jakarta on Monday for Malikussaleh Airport in Lhokseumawe. The President would the continue his trip on board a helicopter to Bener Meriah's Rembele Airport.
