The organizers of the 'Asian Youth Games in the Eyes of the Asian Media' Interview Tour, wanted to exhibit the city's preparation for the games as well as the city's development in social, economic and cultural development.
A visit to the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center with the 60-seat main stadium, was the first stop for visiting journalists from Singapore, Nepal, Bangladesh, Philippines as well as Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Macau.
The media entourage was later driven to the Nanjing University of Technology in the western part of the city.
At the university, we were shown the Olympic Village, which can accommodate some 3,500 athletes and officials. Journalists then had a chance to interview some volunteers.
The next destinations were Imohoo Information Technology Co, Ltd and Smart Nanjing Center.
Imoho is hailed as China's leading mobile game developer and operator, founded in 2009 with branches in Beijing and other cities. The company develops hundreds of games and apps based on IOS, Android, Symbian, Windows Phone and other platforms. Its products covered more than 30 districts and countries in collaboration with channel-partners at home and abroad. The company's products ranked top in App stores in the US, Korea, China and other countries.
The 'Smart Nanjing' Center showed through a huge screen inside a hall how Nanjing would be made into a 'smart city' by integrating construction ' infrastructure, industry, government and culture.
The second day of the tour split the media into two groups. The stops on the list were the Nanjing Foreign Language School, No. 9 Middle School, Secondary School of NUA, Nanjing Pukou Xingzhi Junior High School as well as the
China Telecom Information Experience Center, Nanjing Brocade Research Institute, City Walls Museum and Jiangning smart grid park and Jingling Scriptural Press, the first publishing house founded by scholar Yang Wenhui in Nanjing in modern China.
The miniature of Hexi New Town, which shows future concepts of the city of Nanjing, and Urban Construction Exhibition Hall were on the third-day itinerary. The tour finished off with a visit to the city hall, and an opportunity to interview Yang Weize, member of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee.
'Your visit is very good for us. We want many people to have more understanding about AYG,' Weize said.
'Through your efforts, we hope the spirit of sport will influence our people for a long time. Through your efforts, we hope many people can have a deeper understanding of Nanjing and its social, economic and cultural development.' He said.
Gao Anming, China Daily Deputy Chief Editor, pointed out the significance of visits by fellow journalists from several prominent publications under the Asia News Network given the fact that the Asian Youth Games are taking place for only the second time after Singapore hosted it in 2009.
'For the Olympics, you don't need much publicity, because they know the Games. But for the Youth Olympic Games and Asian Youth Games, I would say not many people are aware of them. It's important for people from Asia to be informed about these games,' he told The Jakarta Post.
'It's good for prominent media groups in Asia to come here and witness how we are preparing for the Games and how the city is developing.'
'We wish you to inform people that Nanjing is a beautiful city. It's an ancient city. Many people may know Beijing and Shanghai. You can see yourself what Nanjing is like and how it is developing for games.'
