resident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Sunday visited the National Holiday Travel Management Center on the seventh floor of the Transportation Ministry in Jakarta to make sure that it is running optimally in safeguarding Idul Fitri holiday travelers.
Yudhoyono checked the readiness of the center's control room shortly after he arrived at around 11.30 a.m. on Sunday. The control room is equipped with a main screen which consists of 20 television screens with two smaller screens to its left and right.
In the control room, the President directly monitored the situation and condition of road, train, air and sea transportation facilities.
The control room provides officials with timely information on the number of passengers, travel speeds and other data.
In the visit, Yudhoyono took an opportunity to carry out a teleconference with state-owned seaport operator PT ASDP Indonesia president director, Ferry Danang S.Baskoro, in Merak Port, Banten.
The President also talked to Tanjung Perak Port head I Nyoman Gede Saputra in Surabaya, East Java, and the captain of KM Bukit Sigutang.
He asked all of the officials to work optimally in assisting the holiday travelers. 'It also needs to be ensured that those who are working during the Idul Fitri holidays can have their leaves compensated,' said Yudhoyono as quoted by Antara news agency.
Vice President Boediono and several cabinet ministers, including Transportation Minister EE Mangindaan and Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Djoko Suyanto, accompanied the President on the visit. (ebf)
