Chinese national detained in visa violation

T

he police detained Chinese national Peng Honggan, 49, onMonday for allegedly violating his tourist visa by trying to sell black-marketcell phones.

Depok Police'€™s operational division head Comr. Suratno said the suspect sold cell phones in a shopping area on Jl. Margonda Raya in Depok, West Java.

'€œSome residents and traders in the area reported to us that this man was selling cell phones without the boxes and accompanying equipment such as battery chargers and headsets,'€ he said.

Suratno explained that in the sting operation, the police found that the suspect could communicate only in Chinese and used signs while offering his merchandise.'€œIt turned out that he entered the country with a tourist visa and therefore was not allowed to do business here.'€

The police had sent Honggan and five cell phones confiscated from him to the Depok Immigration Office to be examined.

'€œI believe not only Honggan has committed such crimes in this area, so we will intensify our investigations into the matter,'€ he said.
