he police detained Chinese national Peng Honggan, 49, onMonday for allegedly violating his tourist visa by trying to sell black-marketcell phones.
Depok Police's operational division head Comr. Suratno said the suspect sold cell phones in a shopping area on Jl. Margonda Raya in Depok, West Java.
'Some residents and traders in the area reported to us that this man was selling cell phones without the boxes and accompanying equipment such as battery chargers and headsets,' he said.
Suratno explained that in the sting operation, the police found that the suspect could communicate only in Chinese and used signs while offering his merchandise.'It turned out that he entered the country with a tourist visa and therefore was not allowed to do business here.'
The police had sent Honggan and five cell phones confiscated from him to the Depok Immigration Office to be examined.
'I believe not only Honggan has committed such crimes in this area, so we will intensify our investigations into the matter,' he said.
