he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has extended the detention of Mario C. Bernardo, a lawyer at Hotma Sitompul and Associates, and Supreme Court staff member Djodi Supratman by 40 days.
Both are suspects of bribery in the latest case exposing the corruption that plagues the judiciary. Mario is suspected of bribing Djodi to win a case at the Supreme Court.
"Today, we extend the detention of MCB and DS by 40 days," KPK spokesperson Johan Budi announced at the KPK headquarters in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Tuesday, referring to Mario and Djodi by their initials.
Mario was detained at the KPK's detention center and Djodi at the Guntur detention center after Djodi was captured while riding an ojek near the National Monument, Central Jakarta, only meters from the Supreme Court in late July.
Mario, meanwhile, was arrested after the KPK took him from his office on Jl. Martapura, Central Jakarta, on the same day as Djodi's arrest.
KPK investigators confiscated more than Rp 100 million in cash from Djodi. Before the arrest, Djodi went to Mario's office and reportedly left the building with a bag of money.
