ndonesia's Vice President Boediono saidover the weekend that he was "optimistic" that Indonesia'seconomy would get through the current economic crisis, marked by the current account deficitand weakening rupiah, adding that he supported the central bank's move to raiseits benchmark interest rate.
"I have high confidence that Indonesia will get through this crisis,' he said on the sidelines of a media gathering at the Cipanas Palace in Bogor, West Java.
Boediono, a noted economist and previously Bank Indonesia's (BI) governor, said he believed in his colleagues in the Cabinet, including Finance Minister Chatib Basri as well as BI Governor Agus Martowardojo.
The Vice President said that the crisis affecting Indonesia was part of what he called "small storms" and he believed that, fundamentally, the nation's economy would be able to overcome it.
Recently, BI raised its benchmark
interest rate to a four-year high of 7 percent.
