IIMS opens amid LCGC controversy

V

ice President Boediono officially opened the 21st annual Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS), which will be held from Sept. 19 until Sept. 29 at the Jakarta International Expo in Kemayoran, Jakarta.

Boediono said during his opening speech, as quoted by Antara news agency, that the automotive industry would hold a strategic role in the future.

The IIMS features 36 car companies, 276 supporting industry companies with over 300 exhibition booths.

The event is being held amid the recent controversy over the government'€™s plan to start producing low cost green cars (LCGC).

This policy has been rejected by numerous regional heads, including Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo and Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil, as they believed that the country needed more public transportation facilities rather than cars.
