A clash between two opposing groups in Luwu Utara district, South Sulawesi, on Monday killed one and injured three others.
National Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Hilman Thayib said on Tuesday that the deadly clash was prompted by a brawl between the two groups from neighboring villages.
'Without any clear reason, residents of Kariango and Padang villages were involved in a fight. They were armed with homemade guns, called paporo, arrows and sharp weapons,' he said in South Jakarta.
Lapona, alias Sabar, a farmer of Kariango village, was killed after sustaining bullet wounds to his stomach.
Three other Kariango farmers -- Idil, Anto and Ruspian -- were injured by bullets and arrows.
The case is being investigated by the Luwu Utara police precinct.
'The perpetrators can be charged with the Emergency Law No. 12/1951 on illegal possession of firearms,' Hilman added.
