lawmaker has said he has been informed that President Susilo BambangYudhoyono has proposed National Detective Chief Comr. Gen. Sutarman as the solecandidate to replace National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo.
'According to a trustworthy source, SBY has recommended Sutarman as the sole candidate to replace Timur. The President's letter is already in the possession of House speaker Marzuki Alie as of Thursday,' House security commission lawmaker Bambang Soesatyo said on Friday, tribunnews.com reported.
Timur Pradopo will end his tenure in January next year.
Sutarman, a 1981 national police academy class graduate was among potential candidates to replace Timur Pradopo. Before serving as national detective chief, Sutarman served as Jakarta Police chief.
Critics said that Sutarman was behind the police 'raid' on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) building when they were trying to arrest Comr. Novel Baswedan, a KPK investigator who led the arrest of Insp. Gen. Djoko Susilo over graft charges.
However, Sutarman denied that there was a 'raid', saying that the police were just trying to coordinate with KPK investigators regarding a murder case that allegedly involved Novel Baswedan. (hrl/dic)
