Issue of the day: Dhani to sue insurance company

S

ept. 28,

Musician and producer Ahmad Dhani has announced his intention to file a lawsuit against PT Prudential Life Assurance for refusing to pay the Rp 500 million (U$43,338) medical bills for his youngest son, identified only as AQJ or Dul.

Through his lawyers, Lydia Wongsonegoro and Teguh Sriraharjo, Dhani challenged the insurance company'€™s reason for the refusal, namely that no money would be paid because Dul had violated the law, tempo.co reported.

Your comments:

I doubt very much that the insurance company'€™s contract would stipulate anything about Dul having to be found guilty or taken into police custody.

Dhani is trying to divert attention away from his son and what he has done; any parent would do the same '€” and he'€™s succeeding.

Some Indonesians think that insurance is a scam. Very few of us regard the actual laws of the land and abide by them. That'€™s a very bad thing.

Insurance is actually good. If you die, your family receives the benefits; just make sure you don'€™t die driving underage.

I am not familiar with the legal reasoning involved here; surely, it is fairly obvious that underage driving is illegal and that the son was obviously breaking the law when he caused the fatal traffic accident? Do you really need to be '€œcharged'€ for an insurance company to refuse payment, even when illegal behavior is a given, as in this case?

Dhani should not continue down this path. Rather, he should worry about the seven victims filing suits against him because of his underage son who was driving the car that crashed into them.

Is Dhani really so naïve? Isn'€™t it crystal clear that his son violated the law? So, how does he think he can sue the insurance company?

I think this is just the beginning of a saga. The police are taking so long to charge either Dul or his father; most probably to buy time.

Dul was recently rehospitalized, due to a high fever, just before the police were due to interview him.

Next will come the memory loss and so on. In the meantime, officially, Dul has done nothing wrong. (Note the sarcasm).

When my wife and I decided to start a family, we both knew that the upbringing, social behavior and so on of our children would be our responsibility until they became of age. We would have no intention of trying to offload the blame onto
others.

Be a man Dhani. Look at your outstretched hand when you are apportioning blame because, although you have one finger pointing at others, there are always three fingers pointing back at you.
