iau province was rated fourth-highest in the country interms of the number of reported incidents of corruption allegedly carried outby government officials, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) reportedon Monday.

According to the data released by the KPK, the commission had received 1,787 reports of alleged graft cases in the last 10 years. The reports were submitted by the public.

North Sumatra was in first place with 5,207 reports, followed by West Java with 4,725 reports and South Sumatra with 2,706 reports.

KPK deputy head Zulkarnain said most of the reports revolved around cases related to service and goods procurement, permit issues and regional budget embezzlement.

'€œThe current situation is very concerning since the number of alleged graft cases has tended to increase each year,'€ Zulkarnain said.

He said the KPK and local administrations would continue to promote '€œclean'€ government.

'€œOur main goal is to increase the accountability of public services and improve regional budget management in all regions across the country,'€ Zulkarnain added.

Riau Deputy Governor HR Mambang Mit also expressed his concerns. '€œWe need concrete steps to prevent this happening again, not only at the government level, but also at the public level,'€ said
