According to its data, sales of cars grew to 61,233 cars in September from 38,776 in August. Toyota remained the major driver behind the growth, jumping 61.6 percent to 40,319 cars. Toyota accounted for 65.8 percent of total car sales, followed by Daihatsu, Isuzu, UD Trucks and Peugeot.
Data from the Association of the Indonesian Automotive Manufacturer (Gaikindo) shows that with September's achievement, Astra's January-to-September sales amounted to 478,639 cars, which showed an increase of 6.9 percent year-on-year: equal to a 53 percent share in the domestic market.
Meanwhile, in the motorcycle segment, Astra saw its Honda sales surge 41.8 percent to 417,544 motorcycles from a month before. The company currently only offers Honda motorcycles.
Between January and September, it sold 3.49 million Honda motorcycles, 13.4 percent higher than the same period in 2012. Despite offering one brand only, Astra continued to dominate the motorcycle market with a 60 percent share, as revealed by the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) .
