resident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono would release a press statement on a regulation in lieu of law (Perpu) on the Constitutional Court (MK), on Thursday, a presidential spokesman said.
'Today, at the Yogyakarta Palace, the President will convey a press statement on the Perpu MK,' said Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha in Jakarta on Thursday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
No details have been released about what time the press statement will be released. The Perpu would regulate the selection mechanism and requirements for Constitutional Court justices.
In a meeting with leaders of state institutions in the State Palace in Jakarta, on Oct.5, Yudhoyono said the government would prepare a government regulation in lieu of law which regulated the selection mechanism and requirements for MK justices.
'I plan to issue a Perpu to be proposed to the House of Representatives. It will regulate the selection mechanism and requirements for MK justices. This is important,' said Yudhoyono during the meeting.
The President further said that along with the spirit of the 1945 Constitution, the content of the Perpu would need the authorization of three parties: the President, the House and the Supreme Court.
The meeting between the President and the state institution leaders follows the arrest of former Constitutional Court chief justice Akil Mochtar by the Corruption Eradication Commission due to his alleged involvement in graft. (ebf)
