S

urabaya won awards in the Best Data Center and Best Data Inclusion categories, which were presented to the Surabaya administration'€™s media center and the city'€™s Broadband Learning Center (BLC) respectively, at the FutureGov Awards 2013.

Surabaya had previously earned awards at the Asia-Pacific level competition.

Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini MT accompanied by provincial agency officials paraded the two trophies '€” awarded at the event at Angsana Laguna Phuket, Thailand, on Friday '€” around the city on Sunday.

Tri Rismaharini said Surabaya was the only institution in Asia Pacific that managed to win in two categories at once.

'€œWhat makes us proud is that Surabaya surpassed several developed countries such as Australia, China, and Singapore. We beat them all,'€ she said as quoted by Antara news agency.

The mayor said Surabaya had projects in every category.

'€œIndia and Singapore, which both have advanced information technology sectors won only one category. Therefore, I thank all parties that have supported the development of information technology in Surabaya,'€ said Tri Rismaharini.

According to a release on futuregov.asia, the Surabaya administration was innovative and had improved the efficiency of its services. It was also praised successfully developing programs that used technology to bridge digital gaps.

'€œSurabaya beat 50 cities and countries that were nominated. The 50 nominations had been selected from around 800 cities and countries,'€ said Tri Rismaharini. (ebf)
