ice President Boediono has said foreign investors should seriously consider Indonesia as their long-term investment destination due to its stable domestic politics and well-run democracy.

'€œDespite challenges, we have succeeded in carrying out reforms and placing our democracy on the right path,'€ he said in Jakarta on Thursday as quoted by Antara news agency.

The Vice President added: '€œThis strong democracy has seen a large number of elections and led to peaceful and smooth governmental change both at the national and regional levels'€.

He made the statements in his remarks during the opening session of the '€œIndonesia Investment Summit 2013'€ in Jakarta on Thursday.

Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) chairman Mahendra Siregar and around 100 domestic and foreign investors were present at the meeting.

Boediono said Indonesia'€™s democracy had been running well and many corrupt practices had been uncovered and the perpetrators had been brought to justice.

He said the problems that had often been complained about by investors were related to regulations and legal certainty.

'€œI am fully aware that there are many complaints on these matters among the business communities here. I can only assure you that the government is committed to continuously improving the business and investment environment in the country,'€ said Boediono, adding that a lack of infrastructure posed another challenge the government would deal with.

Within the next two years, the Vice President said, a number of important construction projects such as seaports, airports, roads, railways, power plants and renewable energy infrastructure would be complete and ready to operate.

'€œI warmly welcome investors to come see,'€ said Boediono. (ebf)
