akarta Police are still questioning at least 15 people believed to have acted as provocateurs in a violent protest carried out by supporters of a plaintiff from Maluku that erupted at the Constitutional Court on Thursday.
One of the provocateurs detained at the Central Jakarta Police Headquarters is Maluku vice governor candidate Daud Sangadji.
The aggressive, emotional outburst, was the first to take place since the court's establishment in 2003, showing the deterioration of the public's trust in the institution following the implication of its former chief justice in graft.
The Central Jakarta Police's head of the detective crime of the Adj. Sr. Comr. Tatan Dirsan explained on Friday that all of the 15 people had been detained since Thursday on their capacity as witnesses.
The police had not named them suspects because they were still intensively investigating the case, Tatan said.
"All of the 15 men are being questioned as witnesses, including Daud," Tatan said as quoted by kompas.com.
The 15 people are believed to be supporters of Maluku gubernatorial candidate pair Herman Adrian Koedoeboen and Daud Sangadji. They ran amok to express their disappointment over the court's verdict.
The group proceeded to throw chairs, destroy three television monitors and shout slogans such as 'the court is a thief'.
