34-year-old woman, Stella Elisabeth OktavianLatumeten, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for smuggling 3.3 kilogramsof crystal methamphetamine into Indonesia.
'The defendant is also ordered to pay Rp 1 billion (US$86,000) for smuggling drugs into the country,' said presiding judge Ni Made Sukadana at the Surabaya District Court in East Java on Tuesday. The sentence was heavier than the 16 years' imprisonment sought by the prosecutor.
Stella, an Indonesian citizen, was arrested on May by the East Java office of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) at Juanda International Airport when she got off a flight from Malaysia.
