ith limited space available for graves in the capital, the city administration is aiming to procure land to build a new publiccemetery.
Deputy Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama said that the plan would be included in the 2014 city budget.
'We aim to buy about 100 hectares of land in Cengkareng [West Jakarta] to build new public cemetery,' Ahok told reporters at City Hall on Wednesday.
He said the city administration also aimed to provide free burial facilities at public cemeteries.
' The burial process can be very expensive because people have to rent sound systems, tents, etc. We aim to procure such facilities so people can use them for free at public cemeteries,' he said.
According to the Parks and Cemetery Agency, the city currently manages 590 hectares spread across 95 cemeteries.
